Growing up,
I faced significant esteem issues and sought comfort in junk food and computer
games. Which, of course, led to me being overweight.
When I was 16, I saw a friend becoming fitter through
sheer determination and a fitness regime coupled with diet changes. I was
inspired and took the first step in my fitness journey.
Diet changes meant drastically reducing my daily dose
of McDonald’s Extra Value Meals and Old Chang Kee curry puffs, which were my
guilty pleasures. I also started going for jogs, but with poor stamina I stopped
every other minute just to catch my breath. Eventually, I progressed into 8-10
km runs 4 to 5 times a week – of course, that took years.
Having tried out several gyms and yoga studios over
the years, I have learned that the community is instrumental in fueling one’s
motivation to workout. This is why I love working out at Virgin Active, where
the staff, trainers, and members together create a family-like, inspirational,
and positive environment. Virgin Active is an exemplary club where fitness is
for everyone, and that fitness progress is possible for anyone with the right
attitude, mindset, and support community.
The gym has become my sanctuary, a place where I can
put aside work and stress from life, and focus that 30-45 minutes solely on
myself. On many occasions, it was on the gym floor where I arrived at some of
my best inspirations and ideas on both personal and work fronts. My favourite classes at Virgin Active are BodyPump, GRIT Strength, RPM and Yoga and you'll definitely see me at those classes. In fact, I love riding so much that I've just gotten certified as an RPM instructor.
Joining Virgin Active is one of the best decisions I
have ever made, and I am immensely thankful to the club for being an enduring
source of inspiration and motivation in my life.
